As Peter continues to instruct the brethren on having the mind of Christ, and living according to God in the spirit, he supplies them with some further expectations.
As we approach the second coming of Christ our minds should be focused on those things that are most important. We should be serious in our service to God, and we should be constant in prayer.
Our relationship to fellow Christians is vital. We should desire each other’s well-being! A constant love toward one another proves most beneficial to each other, and ourselves. When sin rears it’s ugly head it should be dealt with out of love. Our desire for our brother or sister should be for them to get to heaven. We should do what it takes to rid their lives of sin, and restore them.
Showing hospitality to one another is included in love. This is an expectation for Christians. It can often alter our normal routine, but we must not grumble while doing it.
Those in the first century were blessed with spiritual gifts. They were to use them to benefit each other. They were not for selfish use. This should be the attitude of those in the church today. We should seek to build each other up!
Those that are in the position of teaching should be careful to limit themselves to God’s word. Those who minister should do so for the glory of God. God should always be the focus of worship and service.
