Our God has “given to us exceedingly great and precious promises” (2 Peter 1:4). God’s promises are different from any other in that He cannot fail to fulfill them (cf. Hebrews 6:13-18; 10:23). We must be patient, and steadfast to receive the promises of God. He is not slack concerning His promises, rather His longsuffering is for our benefit (cf. 2 Peter 3:9, 15). We must remember that His promises, although sure, are conditional. We must meet God where He has prescribed to receive these promises. He has promised:
• Forgiveness of sins (cf. Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38).
• Exemption from the second death (cf. John 8:51; Revelation 20:14).
• All things will work for good to those who love Him (cf. Romans 8:28).
• We cannot be tempted beyond what we are able (cf. 1 Corinthians 10:13).
• If faithful, we will receive a crown of life (cf. Revelation 2:10; 2 Timothy 4:8).
Praise, and thanks be to God for His “exceedingly great and precious promises” (2 Peter 1:4)!
