“I was glad when they said to me, ‘Let us go into the house of the Lord.’” (Psalm 122:1)
David expressed the proper attitude toward worship. He recognized it as an opportunity to “draw near to God” (James 4:8). It is with that same attitude we should approach this gospel meeting week. Laid before us is an opportunity to “let the word of Christ dwell in [us] richly in all wisdom” (Colossians 3:16); an opportunity to “stir up love and good works” (Hebrews 10:24); an opportunity to further “be transformed by the renewing of [our] mind[s]” (Romans 12:2); an opportunity “for the edification of the church” (1 Corinthians 14:12).
Have delight in the law of the Lord (cf. Psalm 1:2). Be glad that we have an opportunity to hear God’s word, and praise Him in song! Make every effort to be gathered together with your brothers and sisters in Christ! Most of all, thank God for the privilege we have to gather in His name, and partake of His wisdom and council that is able to teach us “all things that pertain to life and godliness” (2 Peter 1:3)!
