photo_0153411922zpuhjhThe moral decline in television entertainment continues. In order to appeal to those who revel in immorality the industry must taint itself with abominations. Recently the “family friendly” television network, ABC Family, decided to follow the crowd by changing their brand. Since its start in 1977 the network has targeted a family audience. I.e. seemingly pure and wholesome entertainment. (Of course in comparison to most networks.) However, growing agendas in national media have lured the station into the pit of filth. The network has ventured from a gradual introduction of immorality to an intentionally conspicuous change in mission.

Starting January 2016, ABC Family will become Freeform. An article on variety.com explained the change:

“The relaunch…marks a continued effort to evolve the young-skewing network past traditional family viewing and toward its target audience of ‘Becomers,’ a network-coined term defined as those in the life stage spanning ages 14 to 34…The new name ‘Freeform’ reflects the essence of the audience, says Ascheim [Network President]: ‘We think that they are indeed in formation so on some level, so it really feels like it invokes the quality of being a Becomer.’”

The article later stated:

“In addition to adapting to the growing audience, the rebrand is also an effort to reach new viewers who may associate ABC Family with too much, well, family.”

This is further evidence of the Godless society we live in. It is sad to see those who once professed to lead the way in maintaining family values in entertainment fall by the wayside, giving into the gross interest in immoral activity. They fit Paul’s description of those “whose end is destruction, whose god is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame – who set their mind on earthly things” (Philippians 3:19).

As Christians living in a nation given over to immoral interests and activities we must firmly stand for the truth. We are naive if we think these changes in society do not affect the church. Those in the first century were admonished for their conformity to societal standards of morality, and the standard is no different for us today. We should be careful to “not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of [our] mind[s], that [we] may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God” (Romans 12:2).
