It is a shame that so many express an attitude of indifference toward Christianity. For some, it is not a matter of unbelief (in the most general sense), but is simply not important. Sure, they believe God exists. Sure, they believe Jesus is the Son of God. Yet, they do very little in response. This is folly.

Consider the hub of Christianity – the resurrection of Jesus Christ (cf. Romans 1:4). If Christ was not raised from the dead, His claim of deity was false. Christianity is based on a lie. Everyone who thought they had hope in Christ no longer does. Therefore, the way they live their lives is of no importance – “If the dead do not rise, ‘let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die!’” (1 Corinthians 15:32b). Yet, if Christ has been risen, Christianity is valid. The proper response to this is to, “Awake to righteousness, and do not sin” (15:24a).

Notice there is no logical middle ground. Paul did not suggest that if Christianity was falsified we would profit any from living righteously. Likewise, he did not suggest that if Christianity was verified by the resurrection of Christ that we could be half-invested.

Consider this in light of the pattern given us to observe (cf. 2 Timothy 1:13). If Christianity is true, and God has provided us an inspired pattern to follow, it is of utmost importance! Yet, some make the decision to pick and choose which facets of the pattern to observe. This too, is folly! If scripture is not a pattern to thoroughly equip us for every good work (cf. 2 Timothy 3:16), it does not matter if we follow any of it. Contrariwise, if scripture is such, we must observe every jot and tittle (cf. Matthew 5:18). There are no matters of irrelevance in God’s word. There is No Middle Ground!
