“For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith” (1 John 5:4).
The world, with its lusts and hardships, cannot be bested without help from the Divine. When we are born of God in baptism we become His children (cf. John 3:3-5; Galatians 3:26-29). As we put our trust in our Father, by His grace He empowers us to overcome. We cannot accomplish any spiritual feat without Him. Yet, with Him we can do all things (cf. Philippians 4:13). His grace is sufficient (cf. 2 Corinthians 12:7-10).
Sadly, the world has accepted a faux-grace instead of testing the spirits to see whether they are of God (cf. 1 John 4:1). They hate rules and regulations, and consider them a burden. However, “this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome” (1 John 5:3). It is by submitting to these commandments in faith that allows us to be born of God, and to overcome the world. The grace that is sufficient is a grace that teaches (cf. Titus 2:11-14). We must be doers of God’s instruction (cf. James 1:21-25), and in our faith will be victory.
