“God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son” (Hebrews 1:1-2).
In the past, God revealed His will “at various times.” The Greek word is polymerōs – in many portions, i.e. variously as to time and agency (piecemeal). (Strong) God did not reveal His entire will at once, but piece by piece. That which was given was a revelation, and that which was spared was a mystery.
He did this “in various ways.” Prophets did not all receive prophecy the same way. To some God spoke. To some God communicated in dreams. To some in visions. “In various ways.” Yet, all were inspired (cf. 2 Peter 1:19-21).
However, “in these last days,” the days introduced by Peter on Pentecost which continue to today (cf. Acts 2:17), He has “spoken to us by His Son.” He is not speaking, but has SPOKEN (past tense). Not to us directly, or through more prophets, but “by His Son,” THE Prophet.
From whom do you receive revelation. How does God direct your path (cf. Psalm 119:105)? He suggests it is “by His Son,” i.e. “the word of Christ” (Colossians 3:16). This has been “once for all delivered” (Jude 3). Who are you listening to? Who are you following?
