Question smallerHaving just exhorted the Hebrew Christians to be diligent due to the power of God’s word to discern our thoughts and intents, and God’s omniscience in relation to our lives, he introduces Christ’s relationship to us as High Priest.

Christ’s ability to make intercession for us gives us great confidence. His High Priesthood is superior to that of those under the old law.

Jesus has passed through the heavens. He did not merely enter behind the physical veil of the tabernacle. “For Christ has not entered the holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us” (9:24). This leads to confidence in holding fast our confession of Christ.

Jesus descended to earth as a man. This allowed Him the ability to have empathy for us in our spiritual struggles. However, unlike the priests under the old law, Christ was “without sin.” We have access to the aid of the only individual that overcame always, and in everything.

We must play our part in this relationship to receive benefit. Christ has made Himself available, but we must have the confidence to approach Him to “find grace to help in time of need.” How wonderful it is to have a High Priest of such magnitude! What boldness that should produce in us to approach Him!
