Question smallerThe given text records Jesus appealing to His disciples as light. Jesus is light come into the world to expose the darkness (cf. John 1:4-5). As followers of His, we must let His light shine in us! This requires a boldness to let our light shine, rather than covering it up.

In order to become “the light of the world” (Matthew 5:14) we must go to the source of light. “God is light and in Him is no darkness at all” (1 John 1:5). For this reason, we must not have darkness in ourselves.

To illustrate this point, Jesus speaks of the eye as being “the lamp of the body.” If your eye is healthy, or single, and allows the light to come in, your whole body is full of light! However, if your eye is bad, or evil, and allows any darkness to enter, that darkness corrupts the whole body. If there is no darkness in God, there can be no darkness in us (cf. 1 John 1:6-7)! If we abide by this principle we will be “full of light!”
