After the locust swarm consumed everything in the land, God called for His people to repent of their sins lest a greater day of destruction come. He told them, “So rend your heart, and not your garments; Return to the LORD your God, For He is gracious and merciful, Slow to anger, and of great kindness; And He relents from doing harm.” (Joel 2:13) Repentance is not an outward display devoid of spiritual substance, but an inward change of the heart.
